Zoning Officer

Jeffrey Gordon
Mondays - 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
or by appointment

Purpose & Intent
The  purpose of zoning is to establish a pattern for the use of land and buildings in the Township of Washington based on the Township's Master Plan. A Master  Plan is enacted to promote and protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of the people pursuant to the Municipal Land Use Law (N.J.S.A.  40:55D - 1 et seq.).

A zoning permit is required when applying for any new construction, alteration, addition, change in use, and/or accessory structure.  It is important that the applicant plan ahead and, when applying for a zoning permit, obtain and bring along a scaled, accurate plot plan or survey of the property. The applicant may complete the one-page application at the Zoning Office. If all items are in order, the Zoning Officer will issue a zoning clearance which allows the applicant to apply for a building permit.  Building permits are issued by the Code & Construction Office.
